Our post-4th of July beach cleanup on July 11th gleaned over 420 pounds of fireworks debris at the Rincon Parkway Day Use section. Our 25 amazing volunteers worked hard to lift clay plugs, paper, wire, and wood launch platforms from the beach.

While we wait for nesting season to wrap up mid-September so we can get back down to the tons of trash on Ormond Beach, we look for other cleanup locations. On July 25th, volunteers picked up 78 pounds of “picnic trash” from Port Hueneme pier, parking lots, and promenade. While it seems like a small amount compared to our other Ormond cleanups, there were a lot of cigarette butts, plastic food wrappers, and napkins. Thanks, Eaton Manufacturing and our other volunteer-regulars, like Matt and John, and first timers!

Big thanks to the 158 community volunteers who picked up 167 pounds of trash and recycling, and 1,250 cigarette butts on July 25! We had a great morning celebrating the Surfrider Foundation Love Your Beach campaign, which honors the 50th anniversary of the California Coastal Act. This landmark law protects public access and keeps our state's coastline clean and safe. 🌊💙☀️

Ventura County Environmental Health Division reported that ocean water quality standards in July met state standards for safe water entry at all beaches except for July 15th at Kiddie Beach in Oxnard, California.
Sampling results indicate that water quality at the following beach failed to meet State standards for bacteria. Warning signs have been posted at this beach advising the public to avoid body contact with ocean water due to an increased risk to human health.
Contact with ocean water should be avoided for a minimum of 50 yards on either side of each posted sign. This beach will remain posted until it has been determined by the Environmental Health Division that water quality meets State standards.
