Celebrating Black History Month

During the celebration of the nation’s first African American History Month,, President Gerald R. Ford urged Americans to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.”

This Black History Month, we are taking this opportunity to celebrate our activists, friends, colleagues and like minded organizations from within the Surfrider network.

These organizations are breaking down barriers for black communities by promoting #DiversityintheLineup, whether that is in the ocean or outside on land. Our success and impact depends on learning from our community, standing in solidarity with our allies and working towards a more just future, both for our organization and the environmental movement as a whole.

You can help support equality and social justice right here in your community by following, sharing, donating, or attending events from any of the following organizations:

Support and Follow Black Surfing Organizations

Support Black Connections in Nature

Support Ventura Black-Owned Businesses

If you can't make it to an event or donate to support black-led organizations, consider supporting one of Ventura's black owned businesses by ordering take-out. These restaurants were compiled by the Ventura County Star:
