Respect the Rincon Parkway - April 11th
Our extraordinary Spring weather has brought more visitors to the Rincon Parkway Day Use with lots of extra debris. This month, volunteers picked up 106 pounds of trash and 10.5 pounds of recycling, which included the above broken beach umbrella, a broken surfboard, and a living room chair. We need your help keeping this pristine portion of our coastline safe and healthy for coastal and marine wildlife.
Keep sharing your love for the ocean and make a difference to our local marine ecosystems in the Santa Barbara Channel at our next Rincon Parkway Cleanup on the second Saturday of the month!
Ormond Beach Cleanups - April 18th
We had a great turnout for our Earth Day (month) cleanup at Perkins Road/Ormond Island. Folks from Porter Ranch, Cal Lutheran University, Camarillo High, and Child Development Resources pulled 987 pounds of trash from this wetlands habitat. What did we find? The usual household trash, 2 skateboards, a kayak paddle, a tire, several paint cans, 3-4 bee boxes (yes, as in 🐝), and an air mattress and foam pad (thanks, Kendall and Seth!). Thank Erica and Ian from New Hampshire, for taking time out from visiting family to join the cleanup!

Ventura Promenade/C St. Cleanups - April 25th
On April 25, 152 community volunteers picked up 33 pounds of trash, 58 pounds of recycling, and 1,750 cigarette butts. Big thanks to the students from Cal State Northridge who brought snacks. They are the ocean stewards of the future! 🌊💙☀️

Port Hueneme Beach Park Dune Restoration - April 4th
Thanks to 32 volunteers from Moorpark, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, and other locations throughout the county for braving the wind on Saturday, April 4. These amazing volunteers, including Air Force trainees and our friends from VTC, pulled out approximately 1600 pounds of invasive plant material—mostly Ice Plant. Removing these plants allows native plants like Beach Burr and Beach Morning Glory to thrive!

Sponsored Cleanups
No kidding! On April 1st, 11 employees from MWS Wire Industries kicked off "Earth Month" by spending 2 hours removing 377 pounds of trash from Ormond Beach and Lagoon. The ocean needs more friends like these great volunteers!

Blue Water Task Force
Our regular sampling and testing season ended on March 31, 2026, but we are continuing to bring education on how to avoid waterborne illness and how to follow the "72-hour rule" after rain events to our local community. We are grateful to the parents and teachers who organized the Walnut Canyon Elementary School Science Night and invited us back for our 4th year to run our mini-lab experience with over 100 students on March 25th. Our favorite moments are when older students teach younger students how to run the lab and when we receive questions like this one from an exceptional 2nd grader: “If it is the same ocean, how can different beaches have different water quality results?”
