With an increase in visitors during July and August to the Rincon Parkway Day Use section, we picked up double the amount of trash on August 10. Our 15 volunteers including moms and young families picked up over 106 pounds total. Our total included items such as discarded living room furniture, beach gear, rugs, umbrellas, and 400 cigarette butts that would have impaired our ocean’s health and marine food web.
CALTRANS is still re-striping the newly paved Hwy 1 and working on the shoulder near Emma Wood north entrance which has restricted parking.
Respect the Rincon Parkway is looking for a volunteer to collect cigarette butts from our containers once a week that we recycle. We require only an hour a week with an awesome view of the ocean and occasionally marine life. Contact rrp@ventura.surfrider.org for more information about this important volunteer position.

This month at Ormond our 18 awesome volunteers removed over 585 pounds of trash from The Nature Conservancy's property at W McWane Blvd in Oxnard. This area is apart of the OBRAP project, set to restore and increase public access to the area for the community. One of the waterways that outfalls to Ormond Lagoon cuts straight through the section we were cleaning up. It is incredibly important to remove the trash from these areas before it blows into the waterway during a windy or rainy day and travels down to the lagoon and, eventually, the ocean.

On Aug. 24, ten dedicated Surfrider core volunteers coordinated our monthly "C St." cleanup, where 150 community volunteers honored Brennan Harrell by removing 257 pounds of trash and recycling and 2,750 cigarette butts from the Ventura Promenade and beaches. August, Brennan's birth month, will continue to be dedicated to Brennan as way for us to honor and celebrate his legacy.
