Again, Thank YOU to everyone who came out in 2019 and helped clean up the places that are near and dear to us!

Due to the current pandemic, things have been changed in order to prioritize everybody’s safety. This year, we are encouraging you to get out EVERY Saturday in September to clean your neighborhood, storm drains, local parks, and anywhere that is presently open and accessible to the public with the individuals in your household. Everything ultimately flows downhill and pollutes our waterways and oceans, so this year we’re focusing on cleaning up the entire watershed and keeping our waterways trash-free.
For International Coastal Cleanup MONTH, the data will be entered into The Ocean Conservancy’s Clean Swell App. Here is a great video that shows just how easy it is to enter your trash information and contribute to their international TIDES (Trash Information and Data for Education and Solutions) database. This is the world’s largest ocean trash dataset.
IMPORTANT: Please enter Surfider Ventura in the area where it says “Group” when you begin your data entry so that we may track items picked up by Surfrider volunteers.
How to Use the Clean Swell App
If you don’t have access to the app, you can still enter the data on paper data sheets and mail it to the address on the card. Click here for English or here for Spanish.
Don’t forget to follow us along on our journey on Instagram at @surfridervc and check out @VCCoastCleanupDay to tune into some awesome contests like their photo contest and “Bling Your Bucket” contest. Get stoked about Coastal Cleanup Month and share the stoke with others as you give back to your community and the environment!
We hope to see you out there cleaning up your watershed in September and protecting your happy place! E-mail beachcleanups@ventura.surfrider.org with any questions and send photos of you with your trash for a chance to be featured in our future newsletters or on our social media!
